Ireland’s biggest race series now in its second year – had it’s first round on 21 and 22 April at Mondello Park, Naas Co. Kildare in Ireland with record crowds attending! The next round of the Adelaide Masters Series takes place on June 23th & 24th and this event will also include the second round of the Stunt Championship.

Bikers gear up for Titanic World Record

To celebrate Motorcycle Safety Week, motorcyclists from road safety charity the IAM (Institute of Advanced Motorists) will attempt to break the world record for the most different makes of motorcycles in a parade and titled: IAM Titanic World Record Challenge. The current record is 138 makes at an event organised by the KillSpills Campaign in 2007.

The parade, supported by Adelaide Insurance Services, will take place on Friday 22 June, starting at 7pm Queens Road, Titanic Quarter, Belfast and will follow a two mile route to the Belfast City Hall and ending back at the Titanic quarter for a BBQ. Boxing hero Wayne McCullough, Olympic Silver medallist and former WBC Bantamweight and Commonwealth champion will start the parade!

The UK’s largest road safety charity, the IAM has ten riders travelling throughout Britain and Ireland during Motorcycle Safety Week (18-22 June 2012) to highlight motorcycle road safety. They will also raise money for charities involved in supporting the victims of road accidents.

Stena Line ferries are sponsoring the ten IAM bikers travelling from Cairnryan to Belfast and Dublin to Holyhead with Days Hotel Belfast and Best Western Hotels providing the accomodation.

This tour will include local events with a number of the IAM’s 220 volunteer-run groups.

IAM chief executive Simon Best said: “It’ll be great to see bikers from all backgrounds and on a myriad of machines coming together for the world record attempt to raise awareness of road safety and money for charity.

“It doesn’t matter if you ride a 50cc moped, a 125cc scooter or a 1200cc BMW. If you come to the parade you’re guaranteed a great evening out and a chance to write yourself into the record books.”

Randalstown Win McConnell Shield

As new sponsors Adelaide Insurance Services were delighted to hear that Randalstown would be wearing their new kit in the McConnell Shield Final on the 14^th April 2012. It was even more satisfying that they beat fellow County Antrim finalists Ballyclare in a thrilling encounter. Randalstown goals were scored by Helen Nicholson, Zoe Wilson and an absolute screamer from Nicole Moore. Adelaide Insurance Services hope that this result and their new kit will inspire Randalstown to even greater heights in the 2012 – 2013 season.

Record Numbers at Adelaide Masters Series

Superbike Race 1 of the Adelaide Masters weekend from Mondello Park. Onboard with Paul Swords. This is the restart.

What a day at Mondello Park, Sunday 22 April for the first Adelaide Masters event of the year. After a settled morning, the showers arrived at lunchtime and the afternoon races were run in a mix of dry, wet and wet/dry conditions. John Morris, director of Mondello Park confirmed that record numbers attended – the most they’d had at this circuit in many years. All very encouraging for the start of the 2012 series. Forth coming dates for your calendar are:

23rd/24th June, 1st/2nd September, 6th/7th October all at Mondello Park, Rep. of Ireland whereas 18th August takes place at Bishopscourt, Northern Ireland.

The Adelaide Masters Grand Final was run in sunshine, but on a wet track and turned out to be a real cliff hanger. Pre Race Favourite and weekend pace setter Brian McCormick took the lead only to slide off at turn 1: Ford Corner and this allowed Emmet O’ Grady take up the reigns, but he too slid off this time at Dunlop corner.

This saw BJ Toal take the lead with Damien Byrne in second and Lee Johnson in third on the new Ducati. After a few laps Lee got the hammer down and reeled in Damien who was close behind BJ. It was difficult to overtake, as there were yellow flags at both Dunlop and Bridgestone Corners. On lap 7 Lee Johnson passed Damien Byrne for second at Ford Corner only to see BJ Toal fall off in front of him, between Ford and Adelaide turns. When another bike fell on fluid dropped from BJ’s stricken machine the Red Flags came out. The organisers called the result on the last completed lap with the bike causing the Red Flag (BJ Toal) not allowed to be classified. Consequently Damien Byrne was the winner with Lee Johnson second and a delighted Carl Phillips in third.

The top three received their awards from BSB Supersport Championship leader Jack Kennedy who also assisted in the commentary box during the afternoon and he received as big a cheer on the podium as the top three.

Time to catch our breath now, as we begin planning for the next instalment back here at Mondello Park on June 23rd/24th.

We’d like to thanks all the people who attended today and helped make up the biggest spectator attendance at a domestic motorcycle event we’ve had, since we took over the venue 12 years ago. It seems the Adelaide Masters Series is really on the move!!!

Sad day for Kells Road Races

Adelaide Insurance have remained loyal to this event since 2008 when we started sponsoring this event and we’re grateful for the awareness that it’s given Adelaide throughout Ireland.

Kells MCRC Press Release:

It is with great regret that Kells MCRC has to announce that due to circumstances beyond our control the 2012 Adelaide International Kells Road Races will not now take place. The Rally Round Kells Festival which was organised for Race Weekend has also been cancelled.

It has been one of the most difficult decisions the club has had to make since it was set up in 1992.

As everyone is aware due to the atrocious weather in 2010 and 2011 the club suffered significant financial loss. We intend spending the next 12 months fundraising to clear our outstanding bills and our intention is to come back in 2013 bigger and better. We would like to thank our creditors for their patience and understanding and with us all working together we will get Kells MCRC back on track. We would ask all race fans to support us over the coming months.

We would like to thank most sincerely our loyal sponsors in particular Adelaide Insurance Services, Kells Town Council, Meath Co. Council, Meath Tourism and Meath Partnership . Their Financial Help and Encouragement has been invaluable to the club and event.

Our Club will be working tirelessly to ensure that 2013 sees the return of our event and we look forward to welcoming you all back to Kells in July 2013.

Entry continues to grow ahead of Adelaide Masters Series opener

Having previously announced the participation of former Irish Superbike champion Brian McCormack, former British Junior Superstock champ Lee Johnston and current Superstock contender Cody Nally, the organisers can now add a number of other big names to the entry list. BJ Toal, Emmett O’Grady and David Haire, all former British championship regulars, will compete for the Superbike crown against the best of the locally based riders such as 2011 Adelaide Masters Series runner-up Damien Byrne.

A number of road race regulars will also join in the battle over the weekend as Alan Bonner, Ronan Pentony, Emlyn Hughes and Andrew Courtney have added their names to the list. Also in the mix will be a couple of dark horses such as Jonathan Ralph, who returned from a long lay off to dominate the Pre ’97 class last season and now moves back up into the Superbike arena. The Cup class for Clubman grade riders should also see a strong battle with former champion Martin K Murphy returning after a year’s lay-off to try and regain his crown.

The Supersport class will also feature a tight battle at the head of the field with Jonny Buckley returning full time to Irish racing following a season in the British series and Brian McCormack also competing in Supersport alongside his Superbike commitments. Richie Ryan, last season’s runner up, is the best of the riders returning for another crack at the title and can never be discounted.

The weekend’s action gets under way on Saturday with qualifying and the first of three championship races. Sunday’s programme will see each class race twice more, with the main part of the day concentrated around the third race for both Superbike and Supersport, and the Grand Final, where the fastest riders from both classes will race together for the days biggest prize money.

Admission for each day is just €10 for adults with Under 16′s admitted free of charge and all admission includes a complimentary event programme.

Cameron Donald star of the day at Bishopscourt

Saturday 7 April, 2012 the Australian Cameron Donald won the Enkalon Trophy Race in association with Adelaide Insurance Services for the second year in succession! 2. L Johnston 3. D Robb 4. B McCormack 5. W Dunlop 6. S Thompson.

Donald also won the opening Adelaide Insurance Superbike race (2. D Robb 3. L Johnson 4. A Archebald 5. S Thompson 6. N Percy) plus both Supersport races taking his Wilson Craig Hondas to four wins from four starts!

Donald commented: “I feel I’m riding better than at this time last year. The only way to ride these machines is to push them hard and I’m pleased to have been on the pace all weekend. It’s good racing miles under my belt before the road races and World Endurance Championships.”
