A genuine commitment to road safety

“Adelaide Insurance Services are not only advocates of safety, but are actively involved in it, because so many of our customers are affected by road accidents. A positive side effect of our safety initiatives are that they’re also helping to keep the cost of insurance down.”
Sam Geddis, Founder and Director of Adelaide Insurance Services.
BikeSafe
“Sam and I made contact in 1997 on the back of the number of bikers that were killed on our roads, many of whom were Adelaide customers. When you’re dealing with the human side of a person losing their life in a traffic collision, you see and hear the traumatic impact it has on a wide circle of people, not just the immediate family. Sam wanted to do something to help his customer’s safety on the road.”

“From that meeting the Bikesafe initiative has evolved in Northern Ireland with Adelaide Insurance Services as one of its key partners and supporters. To date well over 3,000 bikers have availed of the free assessment, which is making a major contribution to reducing the number of bikers killed and injured on our roads.” Constable Bill Holden, Head of BikeSafe in Northern Ireland.
BikeSafe is an initiative run by Police forces around the United Kingdom, who work with the whole of the biking world, helping to lower the number of motorcycle rider casualties. www.bikesafe.co.uk
We recommend that riders seriously consider further training, through organisations like one of our other partners, the IAM (Institute of Advanced Motorists) www.iam.org.uk
Roadwise
The “Roadwise” Safety Driving Test was conceived, developed and administered by Adelaide. This safety programme is aimed at 17 to 24 year old car drivers. Once these drivers have successfully completed the Roadwise Safety Driving Test they’re usually entitled to further discounts on their car insurance. To ensure the future development of Roadwise across the UK, all rights and administration of courses were
taken over by the IAM. In 2005 this led to the IAM appointing Adelaide as their official car insurer in Northern Ireland.
The Dominic Fox Award
The IAM awarded Adelaide Insurance Services this award in 2004 for their major contribution to road safety.
The “Adelaide Advanced Motorcyclists” group in Northern Ireland
To cope with the demand for more advanced rider training in Northern Ireland, Adelaide and other interested parties have joined forces with the IAM (Institute of Advanced Motorists) charity to form the “Adelaide Advanced Motorcyclists” group, adding another Group to the over 200 volunteer IAM Groups across the UK. If you’re passionate about biking let us help you get the maximum out of the whole riding experience by giving your skills a boost, improving your technique & increasing your ability and confidence. It will also help improve your safety on the road and therefore likely to reduce the cost of your motorcycle insurance. Northern Ireland bikers can now apply to do the IAM’s advanced riding programme here by emailing Group Secretary Lewis Murray aam@adelaideinsurance.com or phoning him on 028 9044 2200.
If you’re from elswhere in the UK and Republic of Ireland, visit www.iam.org.uk
Adelaide Insurance Services already sponsors each employee, with a full motorcycle and/or car licence, who must take the IAM Advanced Car and/or Motorcycle Test, so it made perfect sense to galvanise these advanced riders and drivers to join this group.
Adelaide Safety Award
Adelaide was awarded the “Safety Award” at the Irish Racer Awards (Ireland’s premier motorcycle racing awards ceremony) in 2004 for our contribution to road safety by working with BikeSafe in Northern Ireland. Following this accolade, Adelaide decided to sponsor this award. When Adelaide became the main sponsor of the Irish Racer Awards in 2009, the IAM then took up the mantle of sponsoring this award, to keep road safety to the fore.
Helping to improve cross border relations
Many may not know that history was actually made in 2008 with the historic “Adelaide Kells to Kells Rideout” from Co Antrim in Northern Ireland to Co Meath in the Republic of Ireland. For the first time, the Garda Traffic Corps from Ireland travelled to Kells in Co. Antrim for the start of the ride-out and linked up with the Police Service in Northern Ireland and together with over 350 bikers, travelled to Kells, Co. Meath.
Members of the public thought they were seeing things in Co. Antrim when they realised it was the Gardai on the motorcycles and equally so in Kells, Co. Meath with the PSNI… It must be emphasized that in both towns both the Garda and PSNI got a fantastic reception from the general public. How times have changed and we have moved on. This ride-out, organised by the Quay Vipers Motorcycle Club, has continued year on year to build stronger cross border relationships.
Motorcycle racing has always been the one sport that genuinely has brought people of all denominations together. People talk about “Cross Border Co-Operation” but the motorcycle fraternity have done that for the past 80 years or more travelling to the North West 200 and the UGP and now to the Adelaide International Kells Road Races.
Another first! With the help of the Kells Motorcycle Racing Club in 2010 the “Adelaide International Kells Road Races” week-end which incorporates the “Adelaide Kells to Kells Ride-out”, included a football match in Kells County Meath between the Kells Cougars (from County Antrim) and the Kells Soccer Club of County Meath. Plus the Rugby Team from Armoy travelled down to take part in a rugby match with the local team in Kells, County Meath.
Global Schoolroom
Global Schoolroom enables Irish and UK teachers to share their educational experience with teachers in the Developing World. The aim is to raise the quality of education and in turn help to eradiate poverty in those countries less fortunate than our own. It is delivered in India and Uganda over a one month period, typically in July. Now in partnership with University College Dublin (UCD), Global Schoolroom offers an accredited Diploma in Teacher Education to teachers in the Developing World who complete the programme.
Global Schoolroom is sponsored by Adelaide Insurance Services, our parent company, Cornmarket Group Financial Services Ltd and supported by the Association of Secondary Teachers Ireland (ASTI), the Teachers Union of Ireland (TUI) and Irish National Teachers Organisation (INTO). http://globalschoolroom.net/
Business in the Community
Adelaide is also a member of “Business in the Community” (www.bitcni.org.uk) – a membership organisation which helps companies to meet their responsibilities towards society by developing good practice towards members’ staff, the planet and the place where these companies operate.
